Terrazzo Seal
For the grand opening of the new Science & Innovation Center at Regis Jesuit High School, I was tasked with designing a permanent 6’x6’ terrazzo floor seal to greet visitors in the building’s entrance. The goal: to create a mark that felt fresh and forward-thinking while still honoring the school’s heritage. I developed a custom design that included updated brand accent colors, new type selections, and a background motif featuring a subtle atomic whirl—a nod to the building’s scientific focus.
This project required not only conceptual design work but also deep production knowledge. I worked directly with the terrazzo contractor to select the stone substrate and finalize all production files, including specifications for custom-cut brass lettering embedded within the floor.
Collaboration with the president of the school and the Advancement and Admissions teams helped ensure the design aligned with the broader institutional vision. The success of this seal design later led to the development of a specialty logo and updated school crest to be used on high-profile initiatives.
Branding, Environmental Graphics, Production Design
Red & White Checkered Pattern: Reflects the official school colors of Regis Jesuit. Gold & Blue Diagonal Bars: Inspired by the crest of Regis University, Regis Jesuit’s founding institution. Color Palette: Predominantly red, white, and blue to reflect national pride, with Marian blue to honor the school’s dedication to Mary, mother of Jesus.
Placing and securing the brass framing.
Samples were color matched to brand pantone colors. Glass substrate was chosen to keep brand colors as accurate as possible.
